In this post, I'll explain how you can ask where and when a photo was taken, add it to your favorites, hide it, and share it directly with one of your contacts. Using machine learning, the Home Hub finds only the best photos from the album to show.
You can also get notifications on your display about upcoming events, commute, reminders, flights and packages. There are times when your display will show a cool photo of someone, new or old, and you'll wonder if you've sent it to them or not. The display will take you through the steps of picking the right contact, right email address, and then verify everything before it's sent. It's Google's first smart home gadget that's comprised largely of a touchscreen display, after having launched three different display-free smart speakers over the past couple years.

Of course, we're looking at pictures chosen because they'll make this display look great, but it's good to see that it has the potential to look excellent. We'll need to test it more extensively before passing judgement, but the screen definitely looks good at first glance. The Home Hub’s digital photo frame ambitions can be seen throughout the hardware design. It looks almost exactly like a 7-inch touchscreen tablet permanently affixed to a stand in landscape orientation. That stand is covered in fabric — much like the popular Home Mini — and is home to a single, small speaker. There are also volume buttons and a mute switch for the Hub’s always-listening microphones on the back.
But Google didn't talk about how the many third-party services that work with the Google Assistant would work with the Home Hub (we're going to try and find out more on that front). Presumably, it'll still be able to respond with audio, but there just won't be anything accompanying them on the display yet. Sure, Google's new Home Hub wasn't a secret today -- but I was still surprised at just how tiny the device is in real life. I imagined a tablet-sized screen perched on top of something resembling the giant Google Home Max, but I couldn't have been more wrong if I tried. The Home Hub is positively dainty -- thin, light and unobtrusive. The photo below with my iPhone 8 Plus next to the Home Hub should give you an idea just how small this device is.

Google has also updated the smart home control interface for the Home Hub, and it’s now much more comprehensive and powerful. In conjunction with the new Home app for iOS and Android, the Hub can display every room in your home and every smart device you have installed. You can drill down to specific lights or switches, no matter which room they’re in, or just toggle entire groups of lights at a time.
Keep doing this and, eventually, Google will learn and accurately display children as they grow even when you haven’t identified specific photos. Impressively, we’ve also seen Google recognize a person with an obscured face based on the outfits they are wearing. Google calls this feature Live Albums, and it isn’t limited to the Google Nest Hub. You can share these albums with family and friends using the Google Photos app, too. The Hub’s other features and software are very similar to what’s available on the Google-powered smart displays from Lenovo and others that came out earlier this year. It can show you the current weather, upcoming calendar appointments, directions , random facts, sports scores, timers, alarms, and many other bits of information you might ask for.
Essentially, the feature is used to pick out the favorite photos from your vast list of photos in order to save them as a separate album for later viewing. When you have photos stored or saved in Google Photos, you’ll be able to access them on any Google smart device with a screen. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same accountas your Chromecast, or speaker or display. It looks like a bog standard white-box tablet stuck on a speaker. The bezels are too fat and softly curved to make for an appealing photo frame, yet there isn’t a clear need for them outside of housing the small ambient light sensor at the top. The Home Hub isn’t ugly as such, but it certainly doesn’t radiate good taste.
